Performance targets & action plan
Using 2008/09 as the baseline year, set performance targets for energy, greenhouse gas emissions, water and waste.
Develop new action plans to improve environmental performance.
Measuring and monitoring performance
Introduce systems and processes to measure, monitor and report utilities consumption across the organisation.
Continue to roll out of electricity, gas and water AMR data logging meters.
Introduce an environmental performance KPI on Whitbread's balanced scorecard, to measure and reward performance.
Obtain the Carbon Trust Standard.
Sustainable buildings
Review, develop and implement sustainable property design and construction standards for all new buildings.
Aim to reduce the carbon footprint of future developments by 30% compared to current build standards.
Waste, recycling and packaging
Divert waste from landfill, by identifying: Alternative solutions for food waste; and Recycling solutions for Costa.
Energy & carbon saving initiatives
Roll out more energy & carbon saving initiatives within the estate.
Water saving initiatives
Roll out more water saving initiatives within the estate, such as pot wash arms and water-efficient shower heads.
Employee engagement
Initiate a head office campaign.
Guest engagement
Educate guests on Whitbread's environmental initiatives and what they can do to help, through 'Point of Sale' literature.
Indirect impacts
Contact all food suppliers asking them to link with Whitbread on SEDEX.
